Cynthie Fisher of Hamilton, Montana, is a self-taught wildlife artist, working mostly in acrylics. She has been painting full-time for fifteen years, concentrating mainly on depicting unique animal behaviors and interactions, learned from a lifetime of studying and observing wildlife. She has a degree in zoology, a vital field of study for her choice of artistic interpretations. She also enjoys avian taxidermy, and learns a great deal about anatomy from her subjects. Her favorite activity is big game hunting; she has hunted all over North America, and traveled to Africa six times, taking many fine trophy animals.

    Deer Paintings

Whitetail deer are most active during dawn and dusk or in moonlight nights. During the heat of the day they rest and oftentimes you can see beds of matted grass indicating that this is deer habitat. They can be spotted alone or in small groups and are more gregarious in winter: while bucks lead a rather solitary life except during mating season, the does form small groups and, in winter, get together in larger groups to spend the time on a winter range, which is the same year after year. The deer is a browser and feeds on shrubs and twigs but also on grass and herbs. They prefer hardwood forests, dense shrubs, oak, and grassland with shrubs as their habitat. In mountainous regions they tend to follow river systems in spring and fall. They tend to follow definite trails, especially in winter.
